Mrs. Sylvia Marasigan, Consul General of Philippines to Rep. of Korea. On April¡¯ 2012 at the Philippines Embassy, Seoul ¡°INTEGRATED TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE NEEDED FOR MULTICULTURAL FAMILIES¡± President Shin had an interview with Mrs. Sylvia Marasigan who recently finished her term as the Consul General at the Philippines Embassy, Seoul. She seems to be stress. Maybe because of his position as the Consul General who¡¯s main task is to taking care of general business at the Philippines Embassy. She¡¯s always been surprised by the beautiful sceneries of Korea. It¡¯s miraculous economic growth at the most expense of Koreans' diligence, volunteers, particularly the spiritual volunteers for the elderly Nationals. According to her, approximately 150,000 Koreans living in Philippines. Majority of the range are students; small & large business men including Koreans having married to Filipinos and settled in the country together with their children. On the other hand, Filipinos in Korea are about 50,000. Half of them are laborers; 8,000 people are married migrant¡¯s women including hundreds of kids. About 500 people are scholar students with few professors, researchers etc.. ¡°The development of multicultural society in Korea is still at the starting point; Korean government should carry out the integrated programs for the multicultural families instead of educational programs that define the roles of multicultural families. After school programs should be added for kids of multicultural families.¡± She said She has a lot of interests in international married and it is really effective to distribute 'Multicultural Marriages DVD¡¯s in Korea, which is produced by the Philippines Embassy Seoul. The consul general said that there will be more familiar exchanges between Korea and Philippines cultures which have been connected for 63years. In closing, ¡°I would be very happy to come back if I will be appointed again. Korea is my second home town; I¡¯m sure many Filipinos also think the same way¡± Consul General said with a big smile.
